In this time when we gather together to celebrate home, family, and friendship, whether we find that we have or we have not, let us be thankful. As we head into a winter where many of us will choose between heating our homes and feeding our children, and where all of us will know someone who needs our help, let us be thankful for those who have given to us, with their time, resources, and energy, and let us be even more thankful for those who have allowed us to come closer to our potential by giving of ourselves.
Hello All!
In the spirit of resilience, celebration, and thanksgiving, I invite you to an intra-national evening in New York, an opportunity to witness, respond, and get your holiday partying started early for all the right reasons.
We would be honored to have you join us this Tuesday, November 25th at:
Gallery Bar, 120 Orcahrd St. (Orchard and Delancey), NYC,
@ 8pm,
for a preview and fundraiser for a new documentary on the people from across the nation who seek to rebuild New Orleans, uphold its spirit, and unearth a message of hope and possibility for the entire nation from the midst of a devastating tragedy and unspeakable failures.
AFTER THE SCREENING, WE GONNA DO LIKE WE IN NOLA, AND TURN THE HEAT UP!
Molten Hot Funk from DJ Erik the Red
and Special Guests!
If you haven't had an opportunity to see Michael Koehler's Exhibit, "Coming Home," now's your chance, in addition to much more of his powerful New Orleans work, which is featured in the film. If you can't make it, but are interested in seeing a buyers guide, simply respond to this email with the subject "Coming Home!"
EVER WANTED TO PRODUCE A FILM?... I and the rest of the team would love to have your feedback, and for the $10 suggested donation, will place your name in the credits as an Executive Producer (it's time to Execute Communally!), AND take your vote/suggestion for a Title.
Proceeds from the Film, the "Coming Home" Exhibition, and all other donations, will go to buying drywall and insulation for returning residents of the Gentilly section of New Orleans, through St. Gabriel The Archangel Church (www.stgabe.net)
For the past three years, thousands of New Orleans residents have lived through unimaginable conditions in order to uphold their vision of "home" and rebuild their communities. Overshadowed by the turmoil during and following Katrina's destruction and fallout, and often overlooked, are the millions of volunteers that have flocked to New Orleans to stand in solidarity with the residents, and to show that across state lines and thousands of miles, we are neighbors. What these volunteers have found in New Orleans, living in trailers beside tattered remnants of their homes and past lives, are people who live the truth of celebrating when times are hardest, and loving most when the most seems lost. After their time in New Orleans, many of the volunteers left with the clear awareness, that they were the ones who had been touched and helped most deeply.
WE TAKE THIS TIME TO HONOR THOSE WHO INSPIRE US TO UNITE IN THE FACE OF HARDSHIP, RALLY, AND PARTICIPATE IN HOPE!
Let us take this time to show our children that our strongest ideals manifest in the changes we make, not the change we expect a new president or anyone else to make for us!
On that note, some parting inspiration from Philadelphia musicians, volunteers, and students filmmakers, who came out to get us a new president. Time to Work!
